Event Format: 3-game minimum. All teams will advance to a single-elimination playoff bracket. Top seeds get to select their opponent for the first round of bracket play. *Format subject to change based off team numbers, facilities, and weather conditions.
New Addition for 2024: We are hosting a festival night centered around the bracket selection process at Travis Fields in Bryan! Teams should report starting at 6 pm to Travis Fields for a fun night of interaction, skills competitions, vendors, and more! Whether participating in the skills portion or not, the entire team is encouraged to attend and participate in the Bracket Call Out!
What if my team doesn't show up to the meeting?
If your team isn't there - you will forfeit your right to choose. There needs to be a team representative there.
What’s the format?
The format consists of 2 pool play games into a single elimination bracket. Depending on division size, there may be more than one bracket per age group/division. Teams will play 2 pool play games on Saturday followed by a single elimination bracket on Sunday
How does it work?
What makes the Challenge Format different is that the top seeds get to pick who they play against in their first round of bracket games. Any undefeated team from pool play becomes a “protected seed” and cannot be picked to play against. Everybody else, regardless of seeding, is fair game to be picked. For an example, if there are 8 teams in a division and 3 teams are undefeated after pool play – the 1 seed can pick between the other 4 teams to play their first round matchup against. The one seed does not have to pick to play the 8 seed, they can play anybody they feel they match up the best against. After the one seed has picked their matchup, then the next best seed gets to pick, then the next, and so on until every team has a matchup.
What happens if the 1 seed gets a bye?
In the case of a bye game in bracket – the team receiving the bye picks the two teams who play against each other in the game leading up to the bye, also known as the "pigtail game"
What seeds are guaranteed to pick a team?
Only teams undefeated in pool play are considered "PROTECTED SEEDS" meaning if you go 2-0 on Saturday, you cannot get picked by somebody else. On the flip side, if you are the #2 seed but your record is 1-1, the #1 seed has the ability to Call Out your team.
What’s the advantage to picking your opponent?
There may be history between two teams, unfinished business, or just a familiarity that you want to see. It’s possible a team pitched their best in pool play and doesn’t have a lot of arms left, so you want to play against them instead of the team that saved their ace for Sunday. This helps ensure that teams give it their all on pool play to achieve a better position. There’s real incentive to compete on Saturday. One of the biggest points of feedback from coaches is that we need to find a way to make pool play matter more! This format does that.
How long do I have to pick my matchup after the last game?
Triple Crown is working on a special bracket event and location for 2024 where the whole team can be involved
Will the brackets still be posted on Saturday?
Playoff brackets will be posted on Saturday evening in a timely manner after the selections have taken place.
