Overview

The History of the South Oakland A’s

The South Oakland A’s were started in 2003 by Buster Sunde and Randy Baldwin. At first, it was just one team of 8 and 9 year olds. By 2007 there were 6 teams and 2011 there were 13 teams. Today, we carry 10 teams ranging in ages 9 -18. Throughout the years we have stayed true to Buster Sunde’s vision of developing skills through smart work and quality training while maintaining a positive and competitive atmosphere.

In 16 years of existence the South Oakland A’s have won over 100 tournaments including 3 Cooperstown Championships, several NIT’s and Super NIT’s, numerous CABA World Series, and the Battle of the South. We have been to the Semi Final of the World Wood Bat Tournament in East Cobb, Georgia twice and the Final of the Perfect Game World Series in Fort Myers, Florida.

The combination of hard work, quality training, and a competitive environment has shone through to College and beyond. We have had over 200 A’s play college baseball. Over 60 players have gone to play at Division 1 Universities. We have also had 14 guys go on to play professional baseball.

Over the past 16 years much has changed, but the goals at SOA remain the same; Develop skills through smart work and quality training, while maintaining a positive and competitive atmosphere.
